In 2013, the Population Reference Bureau estimated that 2,658 women and girls in Connecticut were at risk of undergoing - or having already undergone - FGM/C. That figure is expected to have grown by almost 50% as of 2021.

A prevalence study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that in 2012 over half a million women and girls in the United States underwent FGM/C or were at risk of FGM/C. 200 million women and girls worldwide live with FGM/C consequences.
